The Investigation
“I don’t understand,” Simon sighed as he plopped down on the couch. “Why does this bill keep going up?”
“What do you mean?” Mackenzie asked.
“Okay, so I get that it’s summer, but I keep turning down the AC only to get a more and more expensive bill with each coming month,” he explained.
“Hmm, do you think it’s the heat outside?” said Mackenzie.
“No, it’s been about the same temperature the entire summer so far. It’s got to be something else,” he sighed.
Mackenzie reached for her phone, “You know what, I have an idea.”
She punched in the letters f-a-c and pressed the first suggestion that popped up. Scrolling through her Facebook friends, she found the person she was looking for.
“Sweet, here he is.” Simon continued to look at her.
“And?” he questioned impatiently.
“One sec,” she offered. Tapping furiously, she messaged Charlie and didn’t have to wait long before she got a “ding” back.
“Yep, I knew it,” she stated bluntly.
“Knew what?!” Simon growled.
“Did your bill go up as the weather got colder in the winter?”
“Yes and significantly… What’s your point?” Simon prodded.
“My friend had a specialist come over, a general contractor in Long Island NY, and they said he needed his windows and doors resealed. When was the last time you had that done?”
Simon’s eyes went to the ceiling as he tried to recall. “To be honest, I’m not sure.”
“Mhmm,” Makenzie proved her suspicions, “Here, call Good to Go Maintenance,” she said, passing Simon her phone.
He punched in (631) 403-7855, and the phone soon began to ring.
Don’t Make Mountains Out of Molehills
It is commonplace to exaggerate problems when they are just little glitches that can be addressed with ease. It is simply human nature to assume the worst and play out all the horrible possible scenarios in our head before sitting down and examining the core issue at hand. We know it can be frustrating and stressful, as Simon expressed above, but together we can make progress, step by step. Let us explain. Just as a leaky tire slowly releases air, as do leaky windows and doors. These leaks release warm or cool air, depending on the season. As air continues to escape, your HVAC system has to continuously run to keep up with the escaping warm or cool air. Just like a tire, this problem can easily be repaired by patching up the holes. A professional can reseal your doors and windows, giving you a pleasant surprise at the impact this can have on your electric bill!
